ABOUT ME: MY JOURNEY WITH LAWN CARE & EVERGREENS

Hi there! I’m Rodney, the creator of The Evergreen Edit. I’m so glad you’re here. If you’re a new homeowner, a gardening beginner, or someone just looking for practical lawn care and evergreen tips, you’re in the right place.

How It All Began

I spent most of my life living in apartments, never imagining I’d one day own a home – let alone fall in love with gardening, lawn care, and evergreens. Growing up in Brooklyn, I lived near the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, where my mom would sign me up for workshops as a kid.

Back then, I learned the basics of gardening and had a lot of fun, but honestly, I didn’t think much of it at the time.

Fast forward to April 2020 – my family and I bought our first home in Northern New Jersey. Let’s be real: we weren’t in love with it at first. It was an older house that needed a lot of love.

The lawn? Forget it. It wasn’t even grass – just a bunch of weeds. But we saw the potential, especially in the backyard. We pictured our boys running around and enjoying a yard they could call their own. That dream is what kept us going.

Falling in Love with Lawn Care

When we first moved in, we hired a lawn care service. They did a decent job, but when they quit, we decided to try doing it ourselves. One day, I found a battery-powered mower on sale, and once I started mowing, I was hooked! I mean, who knew cutting grass could be so satisfying?

That winter, I got serious about learning the ropes. I watched YouTube videos, read articles, and soaked up as much knowledge as I could.

By spring 2021, I was ready to put it all into action. My wife and kids joined me in transforming our yard, and seeing our hard work pay off was one of the most rewarding feelings.

My Passion for Evergreens

During this journey, I also fell in love with evergreen plants. There’s something about their year-round beauty that’s just unmatched.

Whether it’s privacy screens or adding structure to a yard, evergreens are the MVPs of landscaping. I’ve learned a lot about how to care for them, and they’ve become a staple in our yard.

Why I Created The Evergreen Edit

Over the years, I’ve learned so much through trial and error. I’m no expert, but I’ve picked up enough to help friends, family, and even neighbors with their lawn and garden questions.

That’s why I started this blog – to share what I’ve learned and make lawn care and evergreen gardening approachable for everyone.

A Little About Me

I’m a Brooklyn kid at heart, with a lifelong love for creativity. I grew up surrounded by art and music – DJing, breakdancing, you name it. I even studied architecture in college for a bit.

Landscaping feels like a natural extension of that creativity – a way to design and shape something beautiful.

When I’m not in the yard, you’ll find me spending time with my wife and boys, working out, or diving into new projects. And yes, I’m still learning – because every season brings something new.

Let’s Grow Together
